Animal Control is charged with the task of promoting and protecting public safety and animal care through both education and enforcement.

Key duties of the animal control officer include:

  • Transferring at large and abandoned animals to the local Animal Control Facility
  • Monitoring rabies and other infectious animal diseases
  • Educating the public about vaccination and city registration.
  • Enforcement of state laws and city ordinances

Shelter

The department does not operate an animal shelter.

The City of Granite Shoals contracts with the Hill Country Humane Society for animal shelter and adoption services.  Visit the Hill Country Humane Society for more details and information.

Non Domestic Animals or Deer

The Animal Control officer will remove deer carcasses from private or public property Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Except for these circumstances, Animal Control does not handle any non-domesticated animals except in instances of suspected rabies.

With Questions Regarding Deer, please call Non-Emergency Police Dispatch at 806-304-4260. The City will respond to injured or dead deer depending on personnel available and the hazard posed by the animal.
